The President of the Local Govern.ment Board, speaking at Chelsea, stated that the Government programme for next session would include measures' for the establishment of County Boards, the assimilation ofithe Counties and Boroughs franchise, the reform of the London companies, reydistribution of seats, the renewal of the ballot, the checking of corrupt practices at elections, and the amende ment of patent and bankruptcy laws. Professor Robertson Smith, the well known Hebrew scholar,has been appointed Lord Almoaer and Professor of Arabic at the University of Cambridge, as successor to the late Professor Palmer, who was murdered by Bedouins. The general manager of the Australian Mortgage, Land, and Finance Company (limited), who has expressed his opinion on the question of dates upon which wool sales should be held, considers that increased expedition in the transit of Aus- 1 tralkn wool necessitates a change in the dates of sales, and invites Colonial importers to appoint a committee to discuss the propriety of commencing next year's sales on January 8, March 11, June 17, and September 23." Mr Young considers that the advantages of this change would be marked through the year.
