The question of Government attempting to make over are,servS*¥ithin the limits of the borough, of |bout fifty aerejMQ extent to the Taranaki Jockey Club, against the wishes of the Borough Council is again agitating the public;' A meeting of the Club was held on Wednesday, when a resolution was passed agreeing to accept the lease for forty two years at a rental of £75 per annum free of rates. The Borough Couifcil met last evening, when the matter was again discussed, and the following resolution passed :—" That the Council use every legitimate means in its power to prevent the diversion of the reserve now used as a racecourse frpm the uses for'which it was originally granted to the superintendent of the province, namely the improvements of the streets and town of New Plymouth," and " that the Government be furnished with i a copy of this resolution, with a request that the terms of the; new grant be in keeping with the original grant."
