OUR MINES.
THAMES DEEP LEVEL TEIBUTE.
The air boxes near the shaft at the bottom level hare been enlarged, the work being finished yesterday. The pumps were stopped for an hour or two this morning, while the backet was changed, but the water was reduced in time to allow the men to start in the face this afternoon.
MARINES AND LONDON. Ifo work has been done during the pas
week, owing to the amount of gas accumu ' lated at and below No. 2 level. The manager has tried several times to dislodge it, but he has not hitherto been suocessful. To-day he turned a good stream of water into a box with a tin bottom, in which a large number of small holes had been made. This was placed in the northern compartment of the shaft and very soon a continuous stream of gas began to ascend the southern compartment. By this means he may be able to clear the gas enough to effect communication with No. 3 level, which can then be easily ventilated. ' GOLD EETUSNS. Aibubnia.—McDonald and party have j backed 16ozs 17dwts gold, the yield of 12 loads of general dirt.
