GISBORNE.
Yesterday. The New Zealand Land Settlement Company's first sale of land took place today, and 500 were present. Of the Pouawa block, containing 7000 acres of agricultural land, 500 acres were sold at an average of 42s 6d per acre. The land is situated four miles from Gisborne. The Whataupoko block, opposite Gisborne, 1000 acres, was submitted in sections of from sto 4,0 acres. About 300 acres were sold, and averaged £15 per acre. For the balance of the land there were no bidders, and it was withdrawn.
