THAMES DEEP LEVEL TEIBUTE
f The reef met with in the south crosscut at the 640 ft. level on Saturday has apparently been cut through in the left hand side of the drive, but until the face has been advanced two or three feet the real size of the reef cannot be determined accurately. So far as can be seen it is between 3 and 4 feet thick, and the hangingwall is.more solid than the footwall. The quartz is rather white and somewhat hungry looking, but carries a~ good deal of dark mineral intermixed with bright silvery mundic. I also saw a little antimony. It has about the same dip as the large reef 25ft. north of it, but strikes more to the southward, and will probably junction with the larger body a short distance to the east of the crosscut. IS o gold has been seen in the new reef, but it certainly looks promising enough to warrant prospecting. MOANATAIRL The manager reports:—" No. 9 footwall lead in stopes is being broken ; no gold has been seen as yet, but the quartz is as kindly looking a 9 when last reported on. The same leader is somewhat disordered^ face of eastern drive at same level. ■ -i4U. Nations' stopes, above 80 feet level: sdCbe, branch leaders show colors at each breaking. No picked stone has been obtained from here during' the week. Heldt's section, 132 feet level: A few pounds of'picked stone have been obtained front': stopes on No. 9 reef and branch leaders since my last. We have only been able to break but little of either, having had to secure ground and one of our main passes. Tunnel level: Driving was oommenced (easterly) on Monday last from the Don Pedro boundary. We have since met with a large slide, dislocating the leader entirely, but I hope soon to pick it up again. No. 2 reef below tunnel level is without change to report. Nonpareil 215 ft level: The drive is being extended between two leaders, one averaging 4in in width, the other 6in, both of which carry ogold. About 151bs of picked stone have been obtained from here during the week. The two men who were crosscutting at the low level have been removed to the 215 ft level for the time being, as I want to push on this drive towards tbe Waitemata as quickly as poasibla. We shall commence crushing on Monday weeks, J. G. Vivian."
