OUR MINES.

NEW PRINCE IMPERIAL,

i The manager telegraphed this morning: —" 37500zs of amalgam from specimens, which will be retorted to-day. 16640zs amalgam from general dirt still in bank, and 400ozs at battery. Final cleaning up on Thursday next.—G. S. CLA.BK." The total quantity of specimens treated i was 27cwt, but there will probably be one or two more parcels before the end of the month. The hot weather lately has made the air all through the mine rather light for working, and the manger in order to do away with ibis hindrance, is having a furnace built underneath the air shaft at' No. 1 level. A fire will be lighted ia this whenever the gas is troublesome, and it will no doubt create a sufficient down-cast draught to effectually dispel the foul air. By this means also the Southern Cross will be able to carry in enough air to allow them to work in their winzs without inconvenience. The manager telegraphed at 430-—" 16190zs retorted gold from specimens." SOUTHERN CROSS, Between two and three feet of the reef in the winze from No. 3 level of the Prince Imperial was broken down to-day, and 601bs of specimens were bagged, gold being left showing in several places. The stone came from the footwall portion of the lode, which spliced at this point .The hangingwall portion is uot yet taken down. BRIGHT SMILE. Another 50lbs of specimens were bagged t«-day from the intermediate drive j stopes, and a little goll is still showing, j The manager reports the mine as looking j exceedingly well all through. The crushing is also shaping well. About 2301 bs of ■stone are on hand.
