AUCKLAND.
(JBOM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)
Tbe barque East Lothian has returned to Wangaroa leaky. She belongs to Stone Bros. There, is considerable talk here about the condition of the vessel. Ifc is thought she should be sent to Auckland for inspection. [She should be converted into a hulk. —Ed.]
The Auckland volunteers will give a dinner to champion Gordon and other representatives to-night. They are expected to arrive here at 5 p.m. Three of the Auckland representatives arrived in the Manukau yesterday.
Mr Bry'ce will shortly make grants of land under the Waikato Confiscated Lands Act to certain hapus of the Waikato tribe. This breaking away ot his people shows that Tawhiao has little control even over his own tribe. The natives who are to receive land will get it as returned rebels and have all applied for land or concurred in the applications of others for them.
Tawhiao has sent letters to the natives at Hawke's Bay, Wanganui, Wairarapa, Manawatu and elsewhere, stating that he intends to visit them, but he does not fix a date for the visit.
