:-•■ Auckland; Thisl day. ] ... At 4.45 this morning Albert Edward Long, aged nineteen, residing at Pokeno, shot bis father, liichard Dixon Long, aged 53, but .not fatally.. The son afterwards shot himself, and the wound is expected to be fatal. Supposed cause is money matter*. Later.
The following particulars of the-tragedy at Pokeno have been received. A respectable gentleman named Long, residing with equally respectable people named Adams bad a son who has been prodigal and done as he liked. He returned to his father about a week ago from Auckland and Tauranga, where it is reported he had spent a considerable 1 sum of money. His manner since his return has been sullen and moody, but no one suspected that he contemplated the dreadful deed which occurred early this morning. He got a revolver while his father was asleep, and puttine; it behind his ear shot him through the head, the ball passing Jqst below the brain; He then shot himself through the head in front of the ear. Both are still alive. But in a critical state. Two doctors are .attending them. Much sympathy is expressed in the district. Long being, known as a kind gentleman; he is not long from London. The doctors believe there is hope of the father's re* corery, but none of the. son's. . ■ . • ;
