RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT
i THIS DAT/ ' ' (Before Dr Kilgour and H. 0. Lawlor, Esq., J's.P.) A THIEVISH TAILOR. John Fitzgibbon was charged with larcejny as a bailee of certain goods valued at £2 10s the property of Albert J. Allom. The prisoner pleaded guilty.' Mr Allom said he had no wish to punish the prisoner unduly. Miss Allom identified tho goods in Conrt, and knew they had been given to Fifzgibboo to make up Mrs Norah Quadri deposed—She purchased a number of articles from prisoner which she identified; He was to make sbm'3 clothes, and he said he would find the trimmings. She gave 7s for the trimming, 4s for the flttnnel, 2s for the coat, and so on, in all about. 17s. The prisoner told her the coat was his own, and he was going to turn it, but did not want it. He was to work about a fort night for her. The prisoner examined the cloth intended for the coat, and said certain, portions of it were missing. He asserted that Mrs Quadri only gave him 5s for the whole. ,
The Beach said although the offence was • serious one, an Fitzgibbon had
rendered the police every assistance he would bo let off lightly. Sentenced to a month's imprisonment.
The goods were handed over to Mr Allom.
Mr Quadri applied for expenses ai he had been summoned as a witness.
The Bench said there was no authority to pay witnesses in criminal proceedings. Mr Qaadri then applied for payment for the goods taken from him.
Dr Kilgour sympathised with him, and was sorry he had been taken in, but that was a matter with which the Bench had .nothing to do. It should teach Mr Quadri to be more careful with whom he dealt in future. The Court then adjourned.
