, Yesterday. A public meeting for women only is announced for Wednesday at the Young Men's Christian Association, when the question "Is prostitution a necessity P" will be introduced, and important information on the working of the Contagious Diseases Act will be given.
A fire broke out.on Saturday evening in the house of Mr F. A. Whitaker, M.H.E., Hamilton East. Mr Whitaker himself was from home at the time., and there was nobody about the house but Mrs Whitaker and the groom, who succeeded in extinguishing the first outbreak. No sooner had the fire been extinguished in one place than it broke out in several other places, all of which were fortunately noticed in time and extinguished. It is
supposed to be the work of an incendiary. The police are looking into the matter.
