Parliamentary Notes.

[By Telegeaph.] Oeom oue own correspondent.) : Wellington, Last night,

The Council may get; through its work by the end of next r week, but it is not probable that it will do*sn befov'd. The Land Adt has taken a large amount of time, and promises to exhaust a large portion of that which remains ere the session closes. Some Auckland men go away on Sunday, and after the Public Works Estimates are passed, a great number of Southern men will be taking flight. In fact, the Estimates have been the main thing keeping the House together,. Had not this motive been the almost all-prevailing influence, a great many ere this would have followed Grey and Shrimski.

There are still stories running about the lobbies concerning re-construction, but there is great uncertainty as to their form and foundation. Hall is apparently trying to form a new party, and, whenever he can, ho gives his old colleagues opposition and a Parthian wound. Of course, any party formed by Hall will be ultraConservative, and this intent of Hall has given the Government on two or three late occasions unexpected support. Among the Bills proposed to be dropped is the Alienation of Land Bill. There are not so many abandoned this session as usual as only 20 Government Bills are left to stand over and about as many private ones. Whether Atkinson will be able to carry out his programme remains to be seen.

Hislop, of pamaru, is here with another Harbor Loan Bill for £50,000. 1

Fitzherbert has been the subject of much animadversion about the House Commit*

tea spending some £4,000 on repairs on buildings during the recess, and the Joint House Committee have reported that the" money was rightfully spent. There is still some subdued chat about the three hundred guineas honorarium, but the Members' Expenses Bill is left out in the cold.

This day

The Northern Loan Bill passed last night without any protest being made as to the insertion of a proviso nor any attempt made at taking it out. After the Land Bill -had gone through'Committoe in Council last night, Reynolds proposed the adoption of a new clause, which, being carried, entirely alters the whole character of the' Bill, giving as it does leaseholders power to purchase their boldings within eleven years of their commencing to lease at 5 per cent, on the capifplised value on which they pay rent., This, with the alteration of the McELenzie clause, denudes the bill of the distinction

it turned credit for. The Southland m bors workedftheir oracle very.well in "geiting what they wanted done in the alleration of the Loan Bill by a message from the Governor and thus diverting the vote from Holmes' property to Seaward Bush and other places. The most amusing part of the transfer, however, was the manner in which it was done.
