The Archbishop Tascherpan of Quebec, has published a pastoral letter denouncing Le Courriei* dcs Etats Unis, the principal French newspaper in New York, and for bidding the Catholics to read it. The cause of this action was the insertion of a freethinker's letter in the journal. The American Tariff Commission is now in session at Long Branch, New Jersey ; Everett P. Wheeler representing New York. The Free Trade Club made an argument before the Commission in behalf of free trade in raw materials in order to encourage manufacturing.
