At a meeting of the Provincial party convened by Mr Moss, the meeting after considering Driver's proposed motion deferred deciding what course they would take till it was better understood what Mr Driver's views were, and by whom his motion would be supported. If satisBed on these points they would co operate with him and do their best to assist. The Eailways Construction Amendment Bill, which provides for the Tauranga Railway has tliis day received the Governor's assent, and the contract and plans were laid before Parliament. It is rumored here that - after the session, Sir John Hall again joins the Go» ! vernment as Premier, Whitaker again becoming Attorney-General, from his dislike to live in Wellington. i Sir George Grey gives all his library I and the ancient manuscripts it contains to Auckland during his life, reserving to himself the right of removing and keeping for his own use, for purposes of reference, any books or manuscripts he requires. Professors of the Auckland College are to have the same right, with the permission of the Trustees under the regulations formed by them. No other person will be allowed to take books from the library during the life of the donor, after which the Trustees can make what regulations they think proper. Return of persons committed under the Imprisonment for Debt Abolition Act, 1874, for the twelve months ending 30th June, 1882 :—Addington, 37 ; Auckland, 16; Dunedin,22; Gisborne, 2; Hokitika, 2; Invercargill, 6; Napier, 4; New Plymouth, 6; Oamaru, 2; Timaru, 1 ; Wanganui, 15; Wellington, 12. Four females were included in the list—one at Wanganui for 10 weeks, one at Napier for fourteen days, one at Dunedin and one at Addington for seven days each.
