HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

. Wellington, Yesterday. The House met at 2.30. The Trustees* Executors, and Agency Company's Bill was read a third time and passed, Mr Bathgate recording his dissent. Beplying to questions put it was stated steps were being prosecuted for the Extradition Treaty with neighboring colonies, so as to provide for the arrest of absconding debtors. The following bills were introduced and read a ■ first time :—lnterpretation (Tawhai); Draining of Mines (J. C. Brown); Native Land Act Amendment (Mr Bryce). The Mines Act Amendment Bill, School Committees Election Bill, Public Offenders Disqualification Bill, and Employers' Liability Bill were read a third time and passed, , . .. ; Mr Seddon moved the second reading of the Importation, Adulteration,* and Examination of Tea Bill. Major Atkinson said that the Bill was a most valuable ooe, and the Government was prepared to take it up as a Government measure, if the mover was willing. —The second reading was agreed to. Mr Steward moved the second reading of the Gaming and Lotteries Act Amendment Bill. Messrs Connelly, Bryce, M. W. Green, Dick, and Hobbs opposed the Bill; and Messrs Pyke, Joyce, Fish, and Levestam supported it. On a division the second reading was. carried by 43 to 17.

This day. The Mortgages Release Bill (Feldwick) was after some discussion read a second time. Tomoana moved committal of Native Committees Empowering Bill. Mr Bryce strongly opposed the Bill, as being directly opposed to the policy he had throughout been endeavoring to establish in native affairs. Messrs Tawhai, Daniel, Taiaroa, and Sheehan supported the Bill, and after considerable discussion the motion for going into Committee was.then lost by 30 to 28. ■■■;..■■■■-■ Mr Bryce then moved it be committed that day six months, and on a division 29 voted on each side. The Speaker gave his vote against Mr Bryce's proposal, so as to leave the question of future committal an open one. The House rose at 1.35.

The following reports were brought up and read in the . House to-day:—The Waste Lands.Committee report thai; the case of a number of the deferred payment settlers is deserving of consideration at the bands of the Legislature, so as to enable them to fulfil their engagements ;and with this view the -Committee hoped to submit suggestions when its report on the Government Land Bill is brought down.
