AUCKLAND.

This day. "Winiata. Mr Dufaur, Winiata's counsel left for Waikato to-day charged with farewell messages to Tawhiao, and the members of his family. Winiata has written three letters, one to Tawhiao and others, to the King's eldest son, and to Te Bawhiti, the King's secretary. To his father, Parengarenga, and his two brothers he sends verbal messages, have charged Mr Dufaur to see them personally. Winiata has heard that Parengarenga bad been taken ; charge of by Tawhiao, in case he should shoot some European in revenge for his son, and he says he is gratified at it. His message to his father and brothers is as follows :-■-" I am now condemned, and I know that my body will suffer the punishment of death, but I learn from the Bible, and from the clergymen who visit me that if I am truly penitent, and pray to God, my soul shall ascend to heaven. It is my desire that you, my relations, should put away all thoughts of revenge on my account. J)o not make any trouble, or in any way offend against the law." When the sheriff went to inform Winiata of the Cabinet's decision, he replied, in a ceremonious way that he had ceased to have any concern for the welfare of the body, and that his mind was engrossed with thoughts of another world. He still persists that a half-caste committed the murder.

The schooner Cathona, supposed to be lost arrived here safely last night.
