Monthly Inspections.
The inspections for July were made this week by the Officer Commanding, Major Murray, assisted by the District Adjutant, Mr Grant. The parades were all well attended, and the corps appear to retain their efficiency, as was testified by the expressions of commendation by the Inspecting Officer. The Naval Cadets paraded on Wednesday, under Captain Barlow and Lieuts. Boss and Otter. Thirty of all ranks in Eoyal Naval uniforms presented a smart appearance. Captain Barlow put the lads through the manual exercise, which was performed in a fair and creditable manner, better, in fact, than is sometimes seen in the ranks of adult corps. After inspection they underwent about an hour's instruction by the Adjutant, and acquitted themselves remarkably well, for which Major Murray complimented them. The Naval Brigade on Thursday even, ing assembled at 7.30, and lined the Hall almost from end to end. Captain Wild-* man and Lieutenant Burton in command. The band, under the leadership of Bandmaster Moyle, was drawn up on the right and enlivened the proceedings of the evening by some excellent selections of music. Major Murray exercised the corps at battalion drill, and appeared well
pleased with the result. Mrs Ehrenfried at Captain Wildman'3 request, presented prizes to P.O. Armstrong, Thomas, and others. The gallant tars, led by their skipper gave three hearty cheers for Mrs Ehrenfred, and the company then made a moonlight march headed by their band. The Rifle Rangers and Native Corps paraded on .the same evening at 8 30. The former commanded by Capt. Douglas and Lieut. McFarland. mustered in good strength, and presented an excellent appearance in their scarlet uniforms with facings of royal blue. The latter under under Captain Hone Nahe, Lieuta. Riaka end Matu Poona, mustered about 25. The most of the members of this company had march from Kirikiri; and some even, from Puriri in order to attend the inspections. These companies were inspected in line and afterwards exercised by Major Murray at battalion drill, who meted a considerable amount of praise to Capt. Douglas for the way his company had performed its work.
The Hauraki Engineer paraded last evening, Captain Small and Lieut; O'SuLlivan being in command of a very large and: respectable attendance of the corps. Major Murray made the inspection punctually at 8 o'clock, accompanied by Adjt. Grant. Captaia Small told the corps off into three companies, and pat it through a considerable amount of battalion drill, to the entire 'satisfaction of the inspecting officer, who congratulated the officers and men on their cleanliness and large attendance in the face of such unfavorable weather.
