Parliamentary Notes.

[Br Telegbaph.] (feom our own cobbespondbnt.) Weilington, Last night. People are at a loss to understand why Government should have resisted Smith's motion re platelayers early last week and tell Grey to«day that the extra pay shall commence in August. It was not worth keeping the House sitting until half past 7in the morning for this. One thing is very certain, the ten per cent, would not have been put on again but for the attempt to coerce Government. As showing the growing power of employees, Buchanan, of Napier, has got into hot water over his vote on the motion of Smith, with the railway people in Napier. It will, it is said, take much good management to efface the impression he made by voting against the increase. I have seen telegrams from the chairman of his election committee to this effect. I am told that Coster's proposals about direct steam service are as yet a sealed book. '■■■■■- Fenton, Judge of the Native Lands Court, resigned his office and only act temporarily to oblige Government. i Mokau Jones and Wetere Te Euenga are here. { There seems small hope of or chance of j Farrell being * reinstated while Bryce I remains in office. The petition from the j Thames in his favor is very different in expression of the causes which led to his dismissal to the account sent by wire thro«gh the country where it happened. No one has any defined idea of how long the session will last, or what will be done or left undone, what, will or will not happen, and Ministers least of all.
