Recognition of Merit. At the quarterly meeting of the District Ancient Order of foresters held at Otahuhu last night, Bro. Charles Ahier (of the Thames) was presented with a very valuable clock as a mark of the esteem in which he is "held by the members of the Order, and as a recognition of his services rendered to the brotherhood.
H.M.S. Nelson is still .at the Bay of Islands. She leaves next" week. Her engineers report the Bay coal is the best they have used in the South Seas.

Joy, who has been arrested on a charge
of bigamy, was married at Taupiri 24 years ago by the Rev. Ashwell to a half* caste, who, according to Joy's statements eloped witlifa Maori twenty minutes after the ceremony, and got into the King Country, where .-she^hav'since resided, baing the mother o£,fourteen children. Joy Bays he never lived with her,<and never saw her from the hour of the ceremony. ' He again- married, this-time at Auckland, on 9th January, 1882, a j widow ttamed Julia Pramley, who arrived here in the Lady Jocelyn, and the present proceedings, it is understood, are instigated by her. Information has been received that the warrant for Winiata's execution was despatched from Wellington to-day. Five Days "Without Water. The cutter Bessie from Auckland arrived at Whangaroa 'yesterday, after being 15 days out. The Captain reports being blown three hundred miles out to sea. The vessel was six days hove to and they were five days without water
