Hart's Private Tramways Bill, which was read c a second time, in the Council this day. has its purpose set: forth in the preamble,'' which reads as follows :— y Whereas it is expedient to enable local governing jbodies tb| afford facilities for prtrafco tramways." Those who want to construct a tramway apply to the local authorities for a license for so doing, such license to be advertised) and,if .■ objected to a poll is to be taken of ratepayers to decided whether such license shall be granted. The ; Government expressed approval of the principle'of the bill, and promised to go through it with care before going iuto.Cprninittee. • To^mbrrbw Eelly will ask the Commissioner of Telegraphs to state what clause of any existingor repealed statute authorises the Telegraph Department; to place the following announcement on telegraph slips, viz.:—"The Government will not be held responsible for-esrdrsi omissions, or delays in the transmission of telegrams, nor for the non;transmission of any telegram, nor forjdelaya[ in( the delivery, nor for the nbn-deiirery of any telegram, from whatever cause the same may riset' Grey has given notice of his intention to ask the Government on what date the increase; inHhe ; wages of railway employees would take place.
