Mb Denion's lecture on the glacial period was excellently attended, notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather. To-night's lecture will be the first of a new serie3, and is on a most interesting subject, " The races of man, and their origin."
The County petitions in regard to the overpayments of goldfields revenue were neatly engrossed at the office of Mr Miller, County solicitor, and signed by Messrs Brodie and Bsgnall, and Colonel Fraser, and the seal affixed. The petition referring to this goldfield will be presented by Mr Cadman and the Ohinemuri one by Captain Morris, the other County members, Messia Sheehan and Whyle being asked to support. The petitions should reach Wellingtod on Friday. A petition of the same tenor is being prepared by the Borough, and will be forwarded by the first mail.
A wsiiX-ATUNDiD meeting of the share* holders in the Albion Licensing Holding, Otanui, was held' at the Pacific Hotel last night, Mr D. Miller occupying the chair. Mr McKeowo, who pegged ont the ground, eaid he thought that the Eureka reef should be cut in about 50, and certainly not more than 100, feet of dming. The reef runs through nearly the whole of the ground. Other business was transaetsd, and it was resolred that two men should be kept constantly employed drmnf for th.6 reef.
