Wellington, Yesterday. The House met at 7.30. Mr George gave notice to ask "it the
Government would place the Hinemoa at the disposal of members of the South Island, to enable them to visit Auckland, so as to become better acquainted with that part of the colony. Messages were received from the administrator of the Government announcing his assent to " The Corrupt Practices Prevention Act Amendment Bill; " " The Waikato Confiscated Lands Bill; " " The West Coast Peace Preservation Bill;" and " The Auckland Harbor Board Act." The Coroners Act Amendment Bill (Steward) was read a second time. The Dog Registration Acfc Amendment Bill (Steward) passed through Committee [ without amendment and was road a third time and passed. j This day. In Committee, a long discussion took place on the "Vagrant Act Amendment Bill. Ultimately an amendment by Mr Sheehan was adopted, giving magistrates power to commit for trial if of opinion that, the-punishment provided by the existing law was insufficient: to meet any case, and allowing a judge of the Supreme Court, on conviction, to add flagging to the sentence. The Bill was reported as amended. The Eight Hours Bill was fead a third time and passed. Libel Bill No. 2 was read a second time. The Taranaki Iron Smelting Company's Land Bill was read a second time, and the Employment of Females Bill passed through Committee. In Committee on' the Election of School Committees Bill, clause 4 was struck out by 22 to 21. Mr Stewart then moved progress be reported, which was carried by 26 to 20. The Small Bird Nuisance Bill was considered in Committee, and the word "resident" struck out in clause 5. It was then reported as amended, and the House rose at 12 45.
