Te Aroha Mining News.

[Fbosi the, Mail.]

Owing to the improvement in the weather, more work has been done this week than has been done for some time past, and in many instances an improvement has taken place in the mines.

Pbemieb.—The manager, Mr Gavin; has driven through the hanging-wall reef, and is now driving to intersect the footwall lode, which is showing streaks of good gold on the surfaoe, and expects to cut it within the next few days. He is also taking down tbe reef formerly stripped, and gold is showing freely in every breaking down. New Find.— When prospecting on the surface during the week, the men came upon a reef at the back of the main lode, which prospects very well. The manager thinks, from the present course of the lode, it will turn out to be the same reef as worked in the Eureka Company's ground. When more work has been done on the new reef, we expect to be able to give a very good account of it. This mine is the oldest on the field, and has done a great deal of work. The old workings ar9 thoroughly opened up, and they are only waiting for the battery to start to give a good account of the mine.

Young CoiiONiAL.—This mine has been formed into a company. The men were burned out a short time ago, and are busily engaged building a new whare. A new reef has been found lying at the back of the main load, which prospects really well.

Wsbahieo.—The manager has been driving on the reef during the week, and reports taking out quartz which will go 3ozs to the ton at the lowest' calculation. The reef averages from 3 to 4 feet thick. It has been driven on about 50 feet, and shows gold freely the whole distance, the best of the gold being found on the floor of the drive.

Waitoki. —During the week the mana^ ger has been driving for the Werakiko Company's reef, which runs through this ground. In driving the manager intersected a leader about 12 inches thick, in which gold can be plainly seen. The manager intends driving along the leader until it junctions with the main reef, which he expects to cut in a few days, and hopes to have something good to report. The manager intends recommending the directors of the Werahiko and this company to put in a low level tunnel, from which both companies can be worked with greatad vantage.

Emily.—-We are sorry to hear the manager, Mr Murphy, has received instructions to suspend all operations for the present. This license adjoins the Three Brothers, which was the first claim worked by the Maoris on our new goldfield, and from which fair prospects hare always been obtained.

EtnsEKA.—The manager is still continuing the low level, and is now in a good sandstone country. When the tunnel is in under the shot of gold it -*£%?■ give from 200 to 300 feet of baoks. Bonanza Claim. — A meeting of the shareholders of the old Bonanza, next the original Prospectors' Claim, Te Aroha, was held at Quinlan's Hotel last night, to take into consideration, Mr Groldsworthy's report, and to ask Mr Croldsworthy to take charge of the mine.fj^MT&oldavn worthy's report was favorably "' received and adopted, and he was authorised to put on two shifts of two men each to start immediately on the No. 1 reef, to cut through the reef and work on the hanging* wall side, as recommended in his report X
