PROFITABLE INVESTMENT.

Shareholders are guaranteed 7 per cent, on their investment immediately on the line being opened, made up as follows : — The land within a district of nearly 400,000 acres will be rated at 5 p«r cent, and a Government guarantee of 2 per cent, on the cost is provided for. This rate of interest is guaranteed for fifteen years- (See District Railway Aofc,* 1877, clauses 75 to 85, and Amendment Act, 1878, clause 9.) In addition, the Directors expect to make, at least, 1 per cent, more to the Shareholders by borrowing one-half the cost of the line at home at 5 pet cent.
