COUNTY COUNCIL.

A meeting of the Council was held tbis afternoon. Present-—Cr Brodie (in the chair), and Crs Ball, Murdoch, Deeble, Fraser, Bagnall, and Thorburn. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed.

A letter was read from the Tows Clerk, suggesting that as the construction of the dray road up the Tararu creek, was likely to cost a considerable amount of money, it would be advisable to call for plans and specifications, together with estimates of construction, should be prepared for the works on this road; also, that a good bridge over the creek near Brown's mill, and also for the continuation of the road fully 2J miles up the creek. That such plan should be formally submitted to the Warden for his approval, with a view of obtaining half the cost from the Govern, ment.

Cr Thorburn said it would be a very important work, but in the present state of the County finances it would not be advisable to call for. specifications.'

The report of the committee was averse to the proposal, as the main cost would fall on the County, and was adopted on the motion of Or Thorburn, seconded by Cr Bagnall. Mr Stone wrote saying that a quantity of timber had been sent for the construction of the Hape Creek bridge, provided the bridge be proceeded with at once. Mr Graham wrote asking the Council to allow him remuneration tor work done by him in a sub contract he had takeu from Thomas C. Graham. It was decided to send a copy of the letter to the contractor.
