Tararu Sports.
A large number of people intent on holiday-making went to Tararu this afternoon—some to enjoy the luxurious shade under the trees in the-Gardens, and others to see the result of the sports. The ladies were in great supply, and the varied colours of their dresses formed a pleasing picture when in contrast with the rich verdance of the well-kept trees. The first race was the Boys' H&ce, the, distance being a quarter of a mile, handicap. For this there were six entries. The betting was in farour of H. Steadman and Kelly, and resulted as follows:— H. Steadnura, 15yds 1 B. Wolff, 25yd» 2 Gk Steudman, scratch ... .... .... 3... J. McGregor, lOydu ... ... 0 G. Kelly, 15yds 0 J. How the opinion was verified will be seen 'from 1 the result, where a rank outsider came to the -front, beating those who had been in training for weeks past. Mr Gibbons took the lead from the first and aj&int&iued it well until the finish.
