The New Zealand horses Sir Modred, Somnus, Hilarious, and Idialum were shipped by the Te Anau, which sailed yesterday for New Zealand. Sir Modred and Somous have become the property of Mr Craig, who is a passenger by the Te Anau. Melbourne, Tuesday. The Age to day publishes a paragraph stating that a deficiency of £5009 was recently djscovered in the books of the Union Bank of Australia, and that an official who was implicated has since returned the money. In connection with the recent disclosures in the Bank of Victoria, it is stated that Mr Matheson, the general manager, retires from his position, apd that Shann, who succeeded the delinquent Thorpe as teller, has resigned. Latee. The manager of the Union Bank declares that there is no foundation for the statement in the Age of to-day regarding the defalcations in that institution. Sailing: This afternoon, the steamship Te Anau, for the Bluff. Albany, Tuesday. Arrived: On the afternoon of the 20th, the P. and O. Company's steamship Rome, with the Suez mail, which left London on October 21st. ■«
