PUNGAREHU.

This day, 11.15 a.m.

The Nelson men marched for Opunake at 8 o'clock this morning. A number of the .Ngatiaruamuri were sent home under escort to Kerdpa, for whom search had been made. Some were captured here this morning, and sent to the Parihaka camp. Nine men and one woman were taken prisoners at the Parapara fences last night.

12.55 p.m. The arrests were continued this morning; 178 Taranaki natives were taken. The number of Ngatiawaa sent away this morning was 270. The remaining 86 are still in custody at Fort Rolleston, and they, along with those arrested to-day will probably be dispersed to-morrow. Captain Messenger, and Messrs Hursthouse and Parris are in the pah identifying the people. More will be taken this afternoon. About 800 Maoris in all have now been taken out of the pah, and there are more than that number still left. Everything else is quiet, but the weather is dull and threatening.
