OUR MINES.

NEW NOETH DEVON.

The manager reports as follows :— Intermediate level: Sloping has been carried on east and west for the past week. The reef in the eastern drive was a little broken up, but appears to be making again. I now purpose letting this drive stand for a time, while I push forward the western drive towards the Alburnia, as there is about 100 feet to drive in that 'direction. 160 feet level: Driving has been kept constantly going by six men. This drive has now been extended about 40 feet frc-m the winze. The reef in the face is'now about 8 feet wide, very hard and difficult to work, so that but slow progress is being made. The reef shows a little gold in the banging wall portion, but not s,o much as it did a few feet back. I now purpose timbering up this drive, and starting to stope east and west from the wirze, where I expect to obtain better quality crushing dirt. Battery: Since cleaning up, 10 bead of stampers have been kept constantly employed The stuff is not shaping so well for the past week as previously. This I can only account for by the quantity sent from the low level and the western stopes. —John Wilcox. QUEEN OF BEAUTY. The following is the mine manager's report -.-—The plunger workings of No. 1 and No. 2 plungers are all put together, and secured in their places. The plungers are shipped into their cases, and all are ready for the connection to be made. The contractors for the widening of the shaft down to No 7 will have their contract completed for that portion of the work on Thursday first. The cisterns will then be'sent below, and the fixing of the two bottom plungers will be proceeded with. By the time the cisterns are fixed, all the castings will be delivered from the foundry. There are 12 lengths of main reds on the ground, which are all jointed nnd ready to send below.—Geoboe Black,
