The horses ran in Indian file past Ford's; Billingsgate then closed up, lying on On Dit's quarters, and the two reduced the gap between them and Talent. At the first turn Hilda was out of it. Billingsgate now commenced coming, having an outside place, and when within the rails Talent fell back, On Dit whipping. Billingsgate's rider was sitting still, until On Dit had made herself unpleasantly close, but the brown horse had the event well in hand, and won by a neck.
