Mining in the Upper Country.
(BY OTTB TRAVELLING CORBB3PONDENT.)
OWHAROA. Pegging out is still all the rage in this district, and all the ground from Owharoa to Karanghake has been pegged out by some of the knowing ones, who in former days thought nothing of this district, but now, like Othello, find their occupations to be gone. A race is being survayed for Mr James Darrow and another, who, I hear, are going to erect another battery in the district, having bought the Eadical and taken up a lot of other ground It is to be hoped there will be stone enough for both mills. WAIHI. Two more reefs hare been cut in the Waihi Company's ground, both of which are believed to be payable. Some good stone is also at present coming out of the Young Colonial. Arrangements have been made to connect this . mine with the Waihi Company's battery. The Little Tommy drive is in 300 feet, and no sign of tbe reef. In the Old Colonial the owners have ■tarted work. They have been trying to arrange with the Young Colonial for the use of their tunnel.
