Now, grasping the lower part of the pttien#% chesV squeeze his two sides together, pressing gradually forward with all you weight for about three seconds, until your mouth is nearly over the mouth of the patient; then with a push suddenly jerk yourself back, iiest for about three seconds, then begin again, repeating tliese bellows* blowing movements with perfect regularity, so that foul air may be pressed out and pure air be drawn into the lungs, about eight or ten times a minute, tor at least one hour or until patie'at breathes naturally. .
Note.—You must begin the instant the patient is taken from the water ;, a moment's delay, and success may be hopeless. Present crowding round the patient; plenty of fresh air is important. Be careful not to interrupt the first short natural breaths. If they are long apart, carefully continue befctr&eTi them the bellows-blowing' movement as before. After breathing is regular, let the patient be rubbed dry, wrapped iv warm blankets, take hot spirits and water, and then be left to rest and sleep. J. MUEBAY GIBBES, M.B.
