Smile of Fortune Goldmining Company.

A special meeting of the shareholders in the above was held to-day at half past two o'clock at the office of Mr Horsburgh, Brown street, Mr Porter in the Chair. A quorum of shareholders was present, the balance being represented by proxy.

The Chairman said he had to congratulate the shareholders on the improved prospects of the mine, as shown by the present financial position: Overdraft at the B^nk, £141 5s 8d; small accounts, £8 18s 8d; total of indebtedness, £150 4s 4d. On the 31st March, the balance deficiency was £85 19s 4d. Since then a purchase of half the battery was effected for £400, thus securing the whole of the plant. It will be seen by the above that after the end of the tributer's time, the Company will be out of debt, with a splendid property in hand for the Company to work.

The following vacancies in the directory were filled up as follows:—Proposed and carried—" That Messrs S. Morrin,W. Fraser, and M. Vaughan be directors." It was also moved and carried—" That the directors have power to purchase any mining property for the advantage of the company." This concluded the business, after which a meeting of directors was held :to take into consideration the future working of the mine, and transact any other business.
