OUR MINES.
MOANATAIARI
The battery started this morning on the company's quartz with 20 head of stamps. The manager reports for last week as follows :—" 150 feet level, No 1 reef: The quartz here has a likely appearance for gold, and doubtless carries a little, though it is not visible. The drive is extended 21 feet from crosscut, and the reef increases in size as we near the slide. 80 feet level, All Nations leader : The atopes have shown an improvement since my last, gold being frequently seen. The leader will average 10 inches in width, and the quartz should prove payable. 80 feet level, No 9 branch leader : The drive is still being continued on a small goldbearing leader two inches, thick, and a few pounds of picked stone are occasionally obtained from it. lam hoping that the blocks both. above and below the drive referred to will pay well when we commence stoping. 80 feet level, No 9 reef: We have two men stoping on a large, strong looking lbde> No gold has been seen at this point, but appearances are promising for it. Morning Star section, 80 feet level: Having met with a small slide in face of drive, we have discontinued driving, and are now stoping on leader; it has since produced a little picked stuff. Morning Star section, 50 feet level: I am driving on and stoping two small leaders, both of which yield a little picked stone occasionally. Tunnel level: No. 3 footwall leader in face of drive is from two to -three inches thick, and of a very kindly nature; gold in small quantities is generally seen when the leader is broken down. We should have much remunerative stoping from above and below this level when the ground is opened up for that purpose. No. 3 stopes above tunnel and 132 feet levels are without change to report.—J. G. Vivian." GOLD RETURNS. Moanataiei.—Goldsworthy and party have finished a crushing of 15 tons of quartz at the Kuranui Hill battery for the return of 36ozs 7d wts melted gold.
Kubanui Hill.—James and party, company tributers, have crushed a parcel of 20 loads for the return of 64ozs 6dwts
