HAURAKI ENGINEERS.
Our fine corps of Volunteer Engineers underwent the monthly ordeal of inspection last night. The parade was fallen iv by Orderly Sergeant Maclntire, at eight o'clock sharp, by whom the company was duly proved and handed over to Captain Small, who put the men through several exercises. The ranks were then placed at open order, aud the band took up a position. At 8.30 sharp the Inspecting Officer, Major Withers, together with District Instructor Lieut. Grant, entered the drill hall. The parade presented arms, and the band played the salute. The attendance roll was theu called, alter which the clothing, arms, and other appointments were closely inspected, Lieut. G'Sullivan's excellent band mean, while discoursing some pleasing music. The efficiency of the band was then ■'.tested, Major Withers, who is himself a a first-class musician, timing the p rtormers, and declared himself well pleased with both the time and harmony. Lieut. O'Sullivan was then called to the Iront. and presented with his parchment commission, signed by the Governor, bit Arthur Gordon- After.the parade the company were invited to adjourn and drink Mr OSullivan's health.
