NEW NORTH DEVON.
The manager telegraphed as follows to the directors to day : —Thames, 24th September, 1881. —F. A. While, Esq., Auckland.—Crushing from intermediate level is shaping for about fire ounces. If anything, the mine is looking better. — John Wilcox. WAIOTAHI. The matfager reports to the directors: —The mine is turning out good crushing dirt, and I expect to have a larger gold return this mouth. No. 3 level is not yet free of water, but I expect to get the upper hand of it this week, fur I have fixed up a tank to lift the water. —J. E. Smith. HOPEFUL. - The manager's report is as follows : — There is a leader come to hand in the drive, which I think will prove to be the No. 1 leader. At present there is but little water making through it or the lode, so that I shall have to continue to sink the No. 1 winze, No. 2 level, to meet the rise I have started to effect a drainage aud ventilation. I broke down about six feet of the lode from the junction of mineral vein up to the No. 1 leader. I saw a few nice colors of gold at the junction, and a few colors in the footwall portion of the No. 1 leader. The lode here will average about one foot, which I am saving for crushing.—E. Ho\rsE.
