OCR NEW YEAR.

Hark! what is that that so loudly resouudeth, Startling the world with its clarion strains'? "fis the voice of the Shouphar to Israel proclaiming, " Raush Hashono," the Now Year, has come once again. - And Israel's prayer goeth forth in thanksgiving, Unto her Lord, her Father, her King; And the praise of her people ascending to Heaven, Makes with its fulness the welkin to ring.

In the year that has passed both gladness and sorrow Hath Israel experienced—sorrow and pain; But trusting to mercy, infinite Jehovah's, They welcome with gladness the New Year again. And praise they their Maker with fervent devotion, For victories gained and,for mercies bestowed; And rejoice that their God hath, with gracious com- . passion, Relaxed on His people their enemicsgoad.

And they ask that the year which is now beginning' May prove one of happy rcnembrance to them— That they by His power, who reigneth in Heaven, May strength be imbued with their trials to stem: For clouds often gather when seems the day brightest; But with help from our God we have nothing to fear ;

So then let us pray the Omniscient Creator To make the impending " A Happy New Year." J?. E. B.
