The House then went into committee on the Law of Divorce Amendment Bill.— Mr Stewart moved to insert anew clause, to the effect that a woman should be able to obtain a divorce from her husband, if deserted without reasonable cause for upwards of 7 years.—Messrs Seddon and Beeves, Fulton and Brown, B|)qke in iayior of the clause, and the Premier and Messrs Gisbqrnje, Bowen, and Hurst,against it.— On a division being taken it, resulted— Ayes: 32 to 19.—Mr Seddon moved a new clause, "That either wife or husband could claim divorce on husband or wife being convicted three times of drunkenness. This was lost on the voices.—The bill was then read a third time and passed. —Mr Dick brought up a report on the Licensing Bill, and shortly explained its meaning.—Mr Oliver, moved the second reading of the Medical Practitioner's Society Bill.—Mr Bowen moved an amendment that the bill be read this day six months. —The House divided on the motion—For the second reading: Ayes, 25 ; noeß, 30.—The Mining on Private Property Bill was withdrawn.—Mr Kelly moved the House go into Committee on the New Plymouth High School Act Amendment Bill.—Mr Collins moved that it be read this day six months as an amendment.—Messrs Bryce and Fox denounced the bill as an attempt on the part of Taranaki to rob the Wanganui education district.—Messrs Kelly and Trimble defended the bill.—On a. division the amendment was carried by 35 to 17, and the bill was thrown out. ' ,

Later, This day. The Maori Empowering Biil and the Counties Act Amendment Bill were read a second time, and also the Native Land Act Amendment Bill. The Municipal Corporations Act Amendment Bill was passed through Committee, and the Miners' Eight Fee Reduction Bill was considered in Committee, but'was thrown out on a division of 12 to 19.;'r

The Hojuse was in Committee on Grisborne's motion for an address for a subsidy of £0000 to the public libraries, when there being no quorum present the fact was reported to the Speaker, and at three o'clock the House was counted out.
