CARTERTON.

This day,

Mr Alfred Blakesly, manager of Henry Bunny's station at Taratahi West, and formerly of Broaden and Co., was drowned on Saturday in the Waingawa river, in company with Henry Kossister. Deceased was rabbit hunting on the Island in the rirer, aod when the latter rose Kossiter suggested going down tothe bridge, but deceased decided to cross and was swept away. Kossiter had a narrow escape, as he was carrying a swag. Deceased remarked before crossing, " This is the anniversary of the Eimutaka railway accident," through which he was a sufferer. The body has not yet been found. The river is very high.
