(To the Editor of the BvaNiira Stab.)
Sib,—As is well known larrikinism is I the curse of our sister colonies, the cities of Sydney and Melbourne being especially subjected to its pernicious results. Such being the case, I am sorry indeed to see it developing itself on the Thames; till the last few months we have been able to congratulate ourselves on its almost entire absence. A few weeks ago ire saw they had destroyed a lamp belonging to Mr; Day, chemist; more recently still two of their number were made examples of for annoying and abusing a poor, halfdemented creature': the latest phase their freaks have assumed consists io annoyiif church goers. I saw last night, while enjoying a walk' on the Goods Wharf, two, eminently respectable citizens virtually driven off it by the insulting epithets, showers of stones, &c, levelled' at them. The larrikins feeling perfectly safe in the crowd, no doubt. I might suggest, Sir, that the constable' doing duty in Brown street should be ordered to extend his beat to the wharf, in order to prevent a repetition of the disgraceful scene of last night. Trusting you Will grant this insertion in your limited space —I am, &c, . Onlooebb. sth Sept., 1881. ' -: ■'*
It is stated that Sir C. Garan Daffy has formed the intention of again-:.. rew entering political life, and that he will" fake the first opportunity of offering himself to an Irish constituency as an Irish Liberal. : '' • "Say, boy—aay !" exclaimed a,, hotlooking man with a valise, "which is,'the quickest way to get to the cars ?" " itun!" yelled the boy. ; ' ?, "How does painting agree with", my daughter ?" asked au anxious parent/ " It' makes her too red in the face," replied the' teacher.
