NAPIER.
Monday. : Stephen Pell, of Clive, and his companion, were on the Okawa ranges yesterday, in search of horses, when they came across some lime .in what appeared'to be a portion of newly turned rea/tti,' and, on scraping it away, they discovered the lower extremities of a human body. From the appearance of the feet,, they are of opinion that the body' is that of a woman. Without disturbing the remains further, they returned to Clive, and at once communicated with the police. Later. —This day. The .bo dy found at Okawa,is the remains of au old demented Maori. Some weeks ago this native wandered from his pah, and though every search was made, nothing wa9 heard of him till the body was accidentally discovered on the hills, where, by order of a Magistrate, it was buried. When the report reached town it. was supposed the body was that of this native. It was never suspected for a moment that any murder or foul play had taken place.
