It was proposed yesterday in the Council that, owing to the stonewalling tactics pursued in th« Lower House and the probability of a prolonged debate, the Council should adjourn for a fortnight, as it was useless waiting about for something to do while ths obstructive proceedings were continued.
The following return was tabled yesterday, showing the number of births and deaths of children in the culony (the deaths within six months of'registration) for the last four years, to the latest obtainable, and the number of children successfully vaccinatecL The years taken ale 1877, 1878, 1879, and 1880, and the births registered , re>pectirely are as follows : 16,856, 17,770, 18.070, and 19,541. Peaths: 1103, 1086", • 1407, and 1299. Cases of successful vaccination : 10,746, 11,495, 12,384, and 13,628.
