An olliciai Grazette has been issued today, and contains the following amongst other announcements :—Marquis of Tweedale and Lord Keay (Peers of Scotland J, and Earl Howth (an Irish Peer) have been created Peers of Parliament, and will thus take seats in the House of Lords. Sir William Vernon Harcourt (Home Secretary), Sir Frederick Johnstone (M.P. for Weymouth), Sir D. C. Majoribanks (M.P. for Berwick), and Mr Lupton (sic) have been raised to the Peerage of the United Kingdom.

COxVSTANTINOPLE August 29,

Intelligence has been received that several severe shocks of earthquake have been experienced at Tohesme, a maritime village in Asia Minor, opposite the Island of Chio, which suffered so severely from similar visitations in April last. The shocks felt at Tchesme have been most disastrous, a great destruction of property, accompanied with loss of life, having resulted.

Calcutta, August 28

Telegrams are to hand from Candahar announcing that Ayoub Khan has completed the concentration and equipment, of his forces, and will to-day commence his advance against the Ameer at Kehelat Ghilzai. Ayoub's cavalry have already started in advance of the main body.
