AUCKLAND..
This day
[from a correspondent.]
The mystery surrounding the private telegram to a well known citizen about the Keclamation works turns out, after much enquiry, to be one from the Attorney- General to Mr Murdock, general manager of the Bank of New Zealand. Mr Hall's ingenious wire, published this morning, has let the cat out of the bag. Ministers boast of their liberal appropriations for public works in the Auckland district, but the Cabinet must know, even if the monies are voted, they are not more than a quarter of that spent during the current financial year.
Messrs Boardman and Dargaville purpose contesting City West; Clark for City East, if the leaseholders franchise is restored.
