Mr Sheehan leaves to-day for Wanganui, in order to attend the Native Land Court.

With reference to the debate ou the report of the select committee on the New Plymouth Harbour Works the motion of the Premier was m mended by Wright and Kead as follows " That the House is of opinion that the Government should at once bring in a bill to appoint a Parliamentary Commission to enquire into and report upon New Plymouth Harbour Scheme (a) as to its utility aud practicability, (&) as to its financial position and prospects, (c) as to the fairness of rating equally or otherwise all laud included within the present ratiug district. The bill to provide for the suspension of all further expenditure until the report of such Commission shall have been considered, and decided on by this House except so far as may be necessary to prevent injury to the works already executed or to the material in the possession of the board, which expenditure shall be directed and defraypd by the Government out of funds in the possession of the board." This was agreed to by the Premier and the Chairman of Committee, aud the motion thus amended was agreed, to by the House. In the various land districts the following is the summary of the amounts realised on the sale of land for the year ending 31st December 1880:—Auckland, £16,934; Hawkes i3ay, £1,635 ; Taranaki, £2,704; West Coast (North Island), £32,378; Weilington, £2,250; Nelson, £1,441; Marlborough, £1.420 ; Canterbury. £46,535 ; Westland, £772; Otago, £63,"312 ; Southland, £15,197 ; Land taken up during the year on the deferred payment system 136,739 acres ; and cash received for the same during the year, £22,170. It is understood on good authority that the Government will in all probability appoint the Hon Mr Richardson, Mr Macandrew, and Mr Napier Bell (the engineer of Lyttelton Harbor Board) Commissioners to report on the Taranaki Harbor Works.
