Important Land Sale.

Mr Carpenter's sale at the Academy of Music today was exceedingly well atteuded, and it required but a cursory glance afr the company to convince a looker-on that many of the properties offered would command active competition. The prices realised in most instances exceeded the valuation placed upon them by competent judges, saving in th@ case of the fine property owned by Mr Mitchell. The fallowing were the prices obtained :—•

The first lot offered was the Taumatawahine block, 60 acres, wuich was started at 10a per acre, and, after a spirited com* petition, was knocked down to Mr Goldwater at £2 8s per acre. Te Horo block of 9 acres \ rood 17 perches, a fine frontage to the Waihou itivei?, was started at £5 per acre, and rapidly rose to £11 per acre, at which price Mr Frater became the purchaser. - The next lot offered was a freehold section of 27 acres near Hikutaia, which found a purchaser in Mr Townsend at £5 lOs per acre. Three leasehold sections of 27 acres each were bought respectively by Mr Towusend at £2s, and Mr Hume *t £\Q dad at £7.

A 5 ac^B section at Maketu, uear Drury, was bought by i\£r Douglas for £26.

The loa-e of 2 acres ot land at Parawai, with dwelling housebound a purchaser in Mr Hume at £33.

Four small sections at Hastings, after an animated competition were bought by Mr Hogg for £40. Three sections in the township of Pokeno were secured by Mr Dunlop for £10.

The five property atOhinemuri, belong' ing to Mr Mitchell, was knocked down to Mr Wilson for £1250 ; and two-^small blocks of land at Ohineniuri, belonging to the same gentleman, known as the Te Huruhuru Nos. 3 and 4, containing orer 12 acres, were purchased by Mr Buchanan for £15 per acre.

The laud at Parawai, and the agricultural leases, were withdrawn.
