Thames Scottish Battalion.

This popular Volunteer Corps is now armed with a good shooting iron, and increased enthusiasm is the perceptible result. The parade on Saturday was well attended, and the course of drill through which the Battalion was put by Major Watson was performed with celerity and steadiness. Government drills in uniform ; he trusted every member would make it a point to attend next Wednesday's inspection. The next ball-firing day for the Battalion being on the 6th proximo, the following prizes will be competed for :—£2, presented by Quarter-Master Sergeant llawdon, for young shots ; half a sovereign with No. 2 Company's Belt, from Mr G. Lawlor ; sgals. of beer from Mrs Eovre. of the Eailway Terminus Hotel; and the bridecake, perambulator and cradle, won by Volunteer Weir, who, having failed to become a benedict in the prescribed time, gives the articles up for a more enterprising Volunteer to win. The Champion Belts of both Nos. 1 and 2 Companies •will also be fired for on the., same date.
