Tiernan's —The big reef openrd out on the side of the spur, a few yards above where the leader yielded 93 ounces of j is being vigorously worbed^on, and rioh stone continues to be broken out. In fact, the richest qu,arlz'h"as been got 20 _feet in the tunnel, which i? now in a distance "of' 25 fret; the reef has lain perfectly flat', and from 2 to 8 feet wide, with clearly defined foot and hanging walla. In the last Few feet the reef has taken a sudden dip, and it is »xpected.that.it way .shortly be found to assume an upright position. The crosscut west is in about 15 feet, carrying good gold all the way. As soon as some sets of timber are fixed, '"'' ' the manager (Mr Murray) intends to drive ..a cross cut to the east on the reef. The | sample stone to be sent to Wellington was obtained about 20 feec along the tunnel. J The gold, which is to be seen ?ery freely in it, ig of a coarse-character. It constitutes an interesting and valuable specimen of New Zealand auriferous quartz. The manager is waiting for rails to lay a tramway. A capacious and conveniently situated paddock has been formed for the reception of crushing stuff.
