In the last Few feet the reef has taken a sudden dip, and it is »xpected.that.it way .shortly be found to assume an upright position. The crosscut west is in about 15 feet, carrying good gold all the way. As soon as some sets of timber are fixed, '"'' ' the manager (Mr Murray) intends to drive ..a cross cut to the east on the reef. The | sample stone to be sent to Wellington was obtained about 20 feec along the tunnel. J The gold, which is to be seen ?ery freely in it, ig of a coarse-character. It constitutes an interesting and valuable specimen of New Zealand auriferous quartz. The manager is waiting for rails to lay a tramway. A capacious and conveniently situated paddock has been formed for the reception of crushing stuff.
