Accident in the Moanatairi.
An accident occurred in the Moanatairi mine this afternoon about two o'clock to a man named William Dare, who was working for Kneebone and party tributers. It appears Mr Dare went into the mine to relieve one of hia mates, and started to work in an underhand stope on the left hand side of the tunnel. The ground here is very treacherous, and he had not been picking more than two or three minutes before a large slab of stone, weighing from five to six evrt., slipped from the hanging-wall on to him, pinning him to 'thefoot wall. Fortunately for him the stope was very narrow, and the slab had not far to fall, or he might have been much more serionsly injured. One of his mates and another man, who were stand* ing near, saw the stone fall upon the unfortunate man, and at once hastened to his assistance. He was soon rescued and taken to the changing shed. Dr Cullan was speedily in attendance, and examined him. He found th-it no bones had been broken, but there wore some severe bruises on the hip, where most of the weight fell. The injured man was able to walk, and the doctor expects that he will be able to get about again in a few days. A cab was procured and he was taken to the Hospital.
