PARLIAMENTARY GOSSIP.

[By Telegraph.]

(FBOM OUB SPECIAL COBBEBPONDENT.) Wellington, This day.

Iv consequence of the Government withholding from Parliament Sir Julius Vogels latest despatch, which they say was returned unanswered, a subscription has been got up among the members, and a message was sent to Sir Julius Vogel, asking him to forward a copy for publication in the press. It was rumoured yesterday that Mr Beetham has been offered the vacant portfolio, but there is no truth in it. It is very improbable the vacancy will be filled this session.

There is no probability of the estimates being, brought down for some days. Sir George Grey's Bill is regarded by Ministers in the light of a want of confidence motion.

In consequence of Sir W. Fox's ip« suiting the House last night while in Committee on the Licensing Bill by more than insinuating that the majority of the members were drunk, it has been decided to stonewall the Bill.; Several members on both sides of the House strongly protested against Sir Wm. Fox's language, and on an appeal being made to the Chairman of Committees as to whether any member had been disorderly or out of order, he stated no improper conduct had come under Jiis notice. Mr Weston was most emphatic in repelling Sir Wm. Fox's insult.
