MOANATAIRI.
The manager reports for last week as follows :—" Tunnel level: A contract has been let to drire oq Central Italy reef 100 feet west and 100 feet east, from crosscut, at 7s 5d per foot. In east end the reef is 2 leet thick, but half of this is being saved for crushing; In the western drive a clay band has crossed the reef, which I think has heaved it a few feet into the foot wall. The stuff going through the battery from here is of low grade. Nonpareil No. 5 'level: In driving'east the reef has not shown.any improvement during the week, and should no change take place in a few days driving will be suspended, and a rise started about 40 feet from the face, where the reef looks better and some gold was obtained. Morning Star section : In working over the old stopes in back of 50 feet level, we have come on a block of ground 40 feet ioii£ which will, I think, pay well to
stope out. The stuff from stopes abov
132 feet level is showing better than it has been. 80 feet level: In the winze being sunk on No. 2 leader, the lode is very small. Sinking will soon be suspended, and we shall stope out from end of winze. Our general crushing is showing an improvement upon last return. The case of quartz samples sent to Sydney has been returned.—Robert Combe."
COLUMBIA.
The manager reports as follows. — " Since my last, we have removed the office and smithy to the mouth of the liuby tunnel, and since putting through the small hole for air, the men have been able to work most satisfactorily. We are now in between 400 and 500 feet in the tunnel, and the air has again become very dead, rendering it difficult for the men to work, but the point we have now reached is a very promising class of country with three or four good looking leaders averaging from six to eight inches in width, and as no prospecting has been done, I purpose putting up a rise on the one most convenient for working. This will answer the double purpose of securing air and prospecting this leader, while it will give us the air to prospect the other leaders, which I think are of superior quality. There is nothing fresh to mention from the tributers."—l am, &c, Thomas Badfobd.
BENDIGO UNITED
Good progress is being made in driving on the tunnel, but there is no change to report.
